Painting No. 2
The Greatest Event that has ever happened.
What could have been a better event than when our Creator, the Creator of the Universe, came and dwelled with us on the earth? This happened in Bethlehem, a small town in Israel 2000 years ago.
Here is what God has announced to us through his prophets hundreds of years before he came on earth.
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mightly God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
"But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah.
Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past.*"
*The distant past = for ever = Eternity
Luke 2:7 - 16
|She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.
|That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep.
|Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terrified.
|But the angel reassured them. "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.
|The Savior - yes, the Messiah, the Lord - has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!
|And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger."
|Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others - the armies of heaven - praising God and saying,
|"Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased."
|When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, "Let's go to Bethlehem! Let's see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
|They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger.
The purpose of the following explanations is to help those who are not familiar with the Bible Scriptures and are willing to read and understand in order to believe.
God: There is a Holy Trinity, which is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in one and only God. A triune God.
When we refer to any one of the three we are referring to one God. God existed from eternity. He is out of the realm of time and space. Therefore he is uncreated and eternal. God is our Creator and the Creator of the Universe. God considers His creation of Man as His masterpiece. Therefore, He came on earth to save us from eternal death because His love for us has no limit. He created each one of us in three persons: body, soul and spirit. The body allows us to live in this world. That is why we are visible to each other. When the body has finished its mission, it dies. Then the Spirit is released from the body and will live for eternity, either with God or away from Him. Being with God is referred to as eternal life and living away from Him is referred to as eternal death. When we read in the Bible that the Son of God came to save us from eternal death, the Bible is referring to our spirit and not to our physical body. The soul, which is different from the body and the spirit, is our intimate person which decides to do good or bad, according to free-will which was given to us from God the day we were conceived, and will follow our spirit when we pass away.
|The Word of God:
|The Word of God is the source of all Creation. When we read in Genesis, which is the first book of the Bible, we will notice that all creation happened according to his Word. "Let it be," He spoke, and it was.
After this simple and quick explanation, let us go to some verses of the Bible in regard to the birth of Jesus Christ.
|In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God, He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
|So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son.
|And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in this Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God's Son does not have life. I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.
