Painting No. 3
Some time after the birth of Jesus, King Herod heard about the birth of the Messiah, who the Jews had been waiting for for several centuries. He should have been honored and proud that this historic and divine event which had been announced hundreds of years before and had been expected by most of the people of Israel had happened during his reign. Instead, he was troubled and worried about losing his throne. He gave orders to kill all boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were 2 years old or younger, the age calculated by the information given to him.
