Painting No. 5

Jesus was around 30 years old when his ministry started. After having been baptized by John the Baptist (see Matthew 3:13-16) He was led by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting 40 days and 40 nights, the devil tried several times to tempt Him, but he failed, gave up, and left Him. (See Matthew 4:1-11) When Jesus heard that John the Baptist had been put in prison, he began to both preach and seek disciples.

Matthew 4:18-22 |
18 |
One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers - Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew - throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. |
19 |
Jesus called out to them, "Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!"* |
20 |
And they left their nets at once and followed him. |
21 |
A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. |
22 |
They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind. |

*fish for people.
Because fish are hungry and are attracted by food, fishermen are able to catch them. Likewise, men are hungry for the truth and will come to Jesus' disciples to have that truth which is in Jesus. (See John 18:37) |
